I always feel like the Golden Globes mark the beginning of awards season. It’s the first time we see the usual suspects get glammed up and parade down the red carpet while trying to answer Ryan Seacrest’s insipid questions with a straight face (except Brangelina of course).
I have to admit I love awards season, despite the long, overwrought speeches. Do actors really need to thank make-up artists and personal trainers? I’d rather see people give each other the finger or spout nonsense like “Deal with it, Cate Blanchett” than listen to movie stars read off a list of names of people I don’t know.
The one exception: Kate Winslet. It’s hard to believe that someone so awesome–IMHO she’s absolutely stellar in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sense and Sensibility, and Little Children–had been a perpetual awards show bridesmaid: always nominated, never a winner.
So I gladly listened to her weep as she accepted Best Supporting Actress for The Reader and Best Actress for Revolutionary Road. I bet she’s so used to losing she probably didn’t think she’d win another award again. So she took advantage of the moment and thanked every person she could think of (except Angelina. Ha!)
Kate might have seemed shocked that she won two awards, but the Predicto Mobile community sure wasn’t: 56% accurately predicted that Kate Winslet would win Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress honors at the Golden Globes.
Miss Winslet’s a shoo-in to get Oscar noms, but will she score the grand prize? Well she’s defnitely a front-runner now. Better have a new speech handy, Kate!
