Miss Predicto is admittedly not the biggest sports fan in the world. Yes, I’m that annoying person who watches the game for the commercials. But the game’s only the biggest sporting event in the entire world, so I guess I should show some interest in the actual game itself. Or at least pretend to.
Apparently the AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals are connected in a really interesting way. Way back in 1944, World War II left the NFL without a lot of players, so the Steelers and Cardinals merged for one season as a team called Card-Pitt. (That is terribly uncatchy. It sounds like “carpets.” I guess Pitt-Cards wouldn’t be any better though.)
The combo team went a a whopping 0-10 before they were mercifully split back into two teams–and two different destinies. The Steelers have won 5 championships altogether, and have been to the Super Bowl four times in the last six years. The Cardinals have not been nearly as lucky: this is the team’s first time at the big dance since 1947 (yikes!), when the team was still based in Chicago.
The Cardinals definitely seem to be the underdogs, so it’s no wonder that 71% of the Predicto Mobile community predict
that the Pittsburgh Steelers will win the Super Bowl.
And what of the Super Bowl MVP? 51% predict it will be Steelers quarterback Ben “Big Ben” Roethlisberger.
And I predict that I will try hard to pay attention to the game this year, only to change the channel to a “Real Housewives” marathon before halftime.
