Miss Predicto Talks Paula Abdul Versus Kara DioGuardi

Friday, February 27th, 2009

If you’ve been watching American Idol so far this season, the biggest thing that makes it hard to watch is waiting for all four judges to give their fawning or cruelly dismissive comments to the wannabe Kelly Clarksons and David Cooks.

judgesHere’s how it usually goes:

Randy: Dawg, alright! Yes! So! I have to say I wasn’t feeling it. You’re looking hot, but you were a little pitchy, yo. (He repeats a variation of this 5-10 times.)

Kara: You know what? I gotta agree with Randy. That wasn’t the right song choice for you, honey. We can’t tell what kind of artist you want to be based on that performance.

Paula: First of all, you are so beautiful. (Audience applauds.) You are gorgeous, I just want to eat you up and swallow you whole. But that song didn’t really work for me. (Simon starts muttering under his breath.) Let me finish! Your vocals were all over the place, but at least you looked the part of a rock star. Straight up.

Simon: That was absolutely appalling. Just dreadful. (Audience boos Simon.) Why do you boo me when everyone else hated it too? (Audience boos some more, until Simon gives up and rolls his eyes.)

One of these judges (not Simon) has to go. And guess what? Paula agrees with me! She gave an interview to OK! Magazine saying, “Kara and I have known each other for years and we get along great, but we tried four judges before and it doesn’t work.”

Ouch! Kara was asked to respond and she said she was “disappointed” with her so-called friend’s comments. Then of course Paula tried to retract her statement, saying that she was referring when used to have celebrity judges like Gene Simmons and that guy from Sugar Ray. (Yeah, right–of course you’re referring to something that happened years ago that no one really remembers!)

Paula also said that her contract is up after this season is over, and she’s looking to spread her wings and act crazy on other TV shows. Maybe the Idol producers were aware of this, and brought Kara in the season so that we could go used to her before Paula leaves?

Then again, Simon seems to have less respect for Kara’s opinions then Paula’s.  It’s been pretty tense between the judges lately– there’s just not room enough for all four or them (or their egos).

Many in the Predicto Mobile community seems to think it’s time for one of the ladies to take two steps back: 36 % predict that Paula will leave American Idol at season’s end. (30% say it will be Kara, and 34% say neither of them will leave.)

I’m actually ready for Randy and his Dawg Pound to call it a day. It’s be a great to have a judge who has more then four words in his vocabulary, don’t you think?

Miss Predicto Talks The Most Dramatic Bachelor…EVER

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Oh the intrigue, oh the suspense! Which lady will single dad Bachelor ask to marry him? Or at least date  for an indefinite period of time?

jasonbachUsually, all you need to do is watch “the most dramatic rose ceremony ever” (aka the season finale) to figure out of if Jason will choose the perky brunette over the perky blonde. But this incarnation of The Bachelor has had so much drama going on it’s hard to say when we’ll finally know. A quick rundown:

1) DeAnna, the Bachelorette that dumped him during last year’s finale, shows up just as he is anguishing over whether or not to choose Melissa or Molly. Melissa’s the kind of girl who Jason says he usually falls for and then breaks his heart. Molly’s the girl he spent a lot of time making out with–first in a tent, then in a bubble bath.

Seems like a clear cut choice,  right? Then DeAnna arrives and tells him that she has to tell him something IMPORTANT. Great timing, D.  Now Jason has to make a choice between three beautiful woman instead of two. Life is so unfair!

2) It’s rumored that whoever Jason chose to give his final rose is not the person he is currently dating. The show’s producers are scrambling to sort out this mess by filming not one, but two, “After the Final Rose” episodes to untangle the murky intricacies of Jason’s heart.

Maybe the big reveal is that Jason’s  actually in love with Bachelor host Chris Harrison or the show’s key grip or something. Now that would be truly shocking!

The Predicto Mobile community thinks they know who The Bachelor will end up with: 53% believe that Jason will choose Melissa. (30% say Molly, and 17% say DeAnna.)

Miss Predicto Talks Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston’s Oscar Showdown

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Are the Oscars about giving out gold statuettes to honor the best in cinema? Or merely the setting for the world’s biggest celebrity rivalry to finally go public?

joliestonWell if you read OK! Magazine and other tabloids, its the latter. Ever since John Mayer told Popsugar.com that he would be attending the Oscars as a boyfriend, the rumor mill is going off the deep end speculating about the showdown that will take finally place between Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.

“She has always known that this moment would happen and she’s never been more ready to see her nemesis, Angie, in the flesh,” said a surely reliable source about Aniston’s state of mind.

It seems like this source thinks that Jennifer will rip of her jewels, kick off her stilettos and lunge at Angelina as soon as they see each other. The celebrity-media machine is breathless for a catfight…but will it really happen?

For one, Mayer’s claim he’s going to Oscars doesn’t seem so legit when you remember that he also wrote that he was “welding an engagement ring for his girlfriend” on his Twitter page. So it’s hard to say whether he can be trusted about this “scoop” he gave to the website.

Plus Miss Aniston herself has not confirmed she’ll be attending the awards show. And maybe after all the hoopla about her and Angelina facing off, she’ll decide not to show up at the last moment.

I guess it comes down to what’s most important to Jen: stealing Brangie’s thunder by showing up with John Mayer on her arm, or avoiding the tabloid frenzy that will arise if she sets foot on the same red carpet as her ex.

The only way to find out is by tuning in to see how this all goes down. The Predicto Mobile community thinks Angie and Jen will see each other: 79% say that Jennifer Aniston will upstage Brangelina by showing up at the Oscars.

If you like predicting what will happen next in the lives of Brangelina, Maniston and other couples with cutesy monikers, head over to Predicto.com and get in on the voting action today!

Miss Predicto Talks New Moon Soundtrack Rumors

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Can you think of the last time anyone cared about a movie soundtrack? Maybe The Bodyguard, with all of its Whitney Houston hits, or Moulin Rouge, with its quirky covers of pop songs by Elton John and The Police. But I can’t recall the last time a soundtrack received buzz before the movie even came out.

madonnajoWell since the Twilight movies are such a phenomenon, every small details receives breathless coverage. So I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that rumors about The Material Girl and The Boy Band Du Jour contributing songs to New Moon spread so quickly across the InterWebs.

The Jonas Brothers gave an interview to MTV talking about how much they’d love to be asked to contribute a song. There’s a small snag though: the JoBros haven’t seen Twilight yet! C’mon fellas–how are you going to capture the angst of Bella and Edward’s love if you haven’t watched the movie yet?

Madonna is rumored to also appear on the soundtrack, since her manager is also producing New Moon. I think a Madonna song like “Frozen”–cool, spectral and haunting–would be ideal for a movie about star-crossed vampire relationships, but that’s just me.

The Predicto Mobile community would love to see Madge and the JoBros sing songs for the Twilight gang: 66% predict that both Madonna and the Jonas Bros. will appear on the New Moon soundtrack.

Miss Predicto Talks Carrie Underwood’s Big Year

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

As I watch this season of American Idol and see that emotional freak Tatiana and that smug jokester Norman Gentle advance to yet another round while more talented and normal people are let go, it’s hard to remember that this show has produced true superstars.

carrie-underwoodCarrie Underwood is one of the biggest of them all, and she’s been having a great year so far. She delivered a hot performance on the Grammy Awards show that drew acclaim even from non-country fans, won some Grammys herself, and has now just been nominated for the Academy of Country Music’s coveted Entertainer of the Year award.

What makes her nod so impressive is that Carrie is the only woman in the category (the other contenders are the Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and two other guys who wear cowboy hats). And no woman has even received the award since  way back in 2000 when the Dixie Chicks won.

C’mon, it’s time to recognize a lady! How many times can Keith and Kenny win this thing? They can’t be entertaining the country music industry all by themselves.

The  Predicto Mobile community agrees: 70% predict that Carrie Underwood will be named Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year.

Miss Predicto Talks Octuplets Mom and Reality TV

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Nadya Suleman. Don’t recognize her name? How about the mother of 14 children, including octuplets?

425sulemanjolie020609Yes, that woman.  It’s hard to miss hearing about the woman who has no money and no support yet seems to think its possible to raise all these kids on her own. Now some might believe that Nadya’s an Angelina Jolie wannabe, but I think Nadya’s hopes for stardom are a little less A-list.

Really, she just wants her clan to be the next Jon & Kate Plus 8, the famous family made up of one set of twins and one set of sextuplets. Their show on TLC is wildly popular, and Jon and Kate seem to subsidizing their large brood with money from their show, plus endorsements for baby-related necessities. Nadya is unemployed, but claims that she wants to go back to school at some point to earn her master’s degree as a way of making money. The only income she has right now though are welfare and food stamps. Think its possible to raise 14 kids on $490 a month?

The Predicto Mobile community doesn’t seem to think so: 51% vote that the mother of octuplets will get her own reality show by June. (I think its her only option in being able to care for them. Unless she wants to rent her kids to a circus, like Apu did on The Simpsons.)

Miss Predicto Talks Rihanna and Chris Brown’s Troubled Relationship

Monday, February 9th, 2009

I can’t be witty or snarky today, the news is just too sad: Chris Brown was arrested after a woman–later identified to as his girlfriend Rihanna–called police alleging that she had been assaulted by Brown. The news quickly made headlines since the duo were scheduled to appear at the Grammys, but abruptly canceled their appearances.

rihanna-chris-brownThe R&B superstars have always been such a cute and affectionate couple, making it hard to believe they can be embroiled in this kind of domestic violence drama. It’s even more shocking considering that Brown himself has been a victim of an abusive step-father, so you think he’d know better.

According to TMZ, he could serve a maximum of nine years in jail if convicted on charges of making criminal threats. The Predicto Mobile community doesn’t see that happening: 59% predict that he Chris Brown will not serve jail time for allegedly assaulting Rihanna.

In  any case, I hope the media respects the couple’s privacy during this difficult time. (I know, it’s like hoping for flying unicorns or a bipartisan Congress–highly unlikely if not downright impossible.)

Miss Predicto Talks Jessica Simpson’s Weight Issues

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Here I am again, discussing a celebrity’s weight issues. But at least with Oprah, she’s the one who announced that she gained 40 pounds. So if Oprah didn’t mind talking about her weight, then the media had free rein to do so too.

tfatsimpUnfortunately, Jessica Simpson let her outfit do the talking. By squeezing herself into some really bad Mom Jeans, the former reality star drew international attention for her fuller figure.

Gossip queen Liz Smith speculates that Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig would like Jessica to endorse their product. Will she follow in the footsteps of legendary “Before and After” spokeswomen Kirstie Alley (still an “After”), Valerie Bertinelli (definitely a “Before”) and Whoopi Goldberg (hard to tell because of her baggy clothing)?

I mean, if Tony Award-winning thespian/Cosby Show mom Phylicia Rashad doesn’t mind shilling for Jenny Craig, then it really isn’t beneath Jessica’s dignity either. The Predicto Mobile community agrees: 59% say that plus-sized Jessica Simpson will become a spokeswoman for a a weight loss program by 4/25.

Here’s another thought: what if this is Jessica’s way of courting media attention? By tripling in size, she’s also tripled the amount of coverage she’s getting from the tabloids. Just saying.

Miss Predicto Talks Grammy Nominations (Part 2)

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Ah, the Grammys. The one award show I watch for the performances, not the awards. Because they’re too many of them! “Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals” and “Best Remixed Recording” and “Best Polka Album”–who cares, really?

I know there are a lot of musical genres, but doesn’t it kind of dilute the prestige if there are like 100 awards given out? (Seriously, there are so many of them that most of the awards are handed out before the show even airs.)

lilwayneThere are three Grammys that actually matter: Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist. (The Predicto Mobile community already voted on the latter category; click here to see the results.)

Lil Wayne racked up an impressive 8 Grammy nominations, including a Best Album nod for Tha Carter III, which has sold more than 3 million copies so far. But will Lil Wayne’s, uh, Little Wayne-ness (the face tattoos, the gold teeth, the arrest record), be too outrageous for Grammy voters?

The Predicto Mobile community doesn’t think so: 69% predict that Lil Wayne will win the Grammy for Album of the Year.

The Record of the Year is another coveted award, and Coldplay is one of the nominees for the song “Viva La Vida.” Coldplay might have some issues while cplay1attending the Grammys though–guitarist Joe Satriani is intent on serving the band with copyright infringement papers, and plans to do so at the awards show. The guy is convinced that “Viva La Vida” is a ripoff of one of his tunes, and is determined to sue Chris Martin and company. Not many bands could say they received a Grammy and a lawsuit for one of their songs all in the same night!

The Predicto Mobile community seems to think Coldplay has a better chance at getting served: 49% believe Coldplay will win the Grammy for Record of the Year.

Make sure to check out the Grammy nominations blog posted last week about my fave couple Bey-Z. (Who? Just read it, you’ll see what I mean.) And if you would like to vote on the Grammys and other award shows, go to Predicto.com to learn how!
