Predicto Asks: Who Will Be Voted Out on American Idol’s Top Downloads Week?

So its “Top Downloads” week on Idol! Yeah…so…what the heck does that mean?

idol-top-9It means that contestants can choose songs that were #1 downloads on iTunes. We like this theme, because it gives them an opportunity to pick something that was actually recorded in their lifetimes.

Which is good, because no one can complain they have to sing in a genre they are uncomfortable with (i.e. Lil Rounds and country music). Adam Lambert’s been pretty good at picking songs that keep people talking (even when he gives the camera the creepy sex eyes), so it will be fun to see what he chooses.

Ditto for Anoop–we bet the guy will do a song that has the same infectious energy as his take on “My Prerogative”.

As for who’s gonna struggle with the broad theme? Scott, definitely.  This guy should have gone home way back when they were determining the Top 36. He makes such poor song choices that we wouldn’t be surprised if he chose a Chris Brown single.

If we could dictate Scott’s song choice, we’d pick something gonzo like The Black Eyed Peas’ “My Humps”. Why not? He might as well go for broke, since  everyone has such low expectations of him.

Now Megan, she of the awkward shimmy shake and tattooed arms, has talent. We see it every time she tests out a vocal for each theme’s celebrity mentor. Why that small streak of sunshine translates into a sublime mess when she hits the stage is anyone’s guess.

Megan has a nice instrument, but she needs to learn not to belt her songs like a wannabe Whitney Houston. We’d like her to do a playful, catchy ditty like Feist’s “1,2,3,4″ because it would be a much better showcase for her unique vocals.

Matt probably doesn’t need help with song selection; he’s already typecast himself as an imitation Justin Timberlake with fairly successful results. Somehow he ended up in the bottom two last week, though.

Perhaps he should try something outside his comfort zone, like covering Beyonce’s “Irreplacable”. It could be awesome or completely bizarre. But at least the performance would garner him buzz of some kind, because at the moment everyone’s still getting him mixed up with baby-faced Kris. (Look at the picture above–can you tell Matt and Kris apart?)

So who will be voted off American Idol on April Fool’s Day? 31% of the Predicto Mobile community predict Scott will be sent home, 23% say it will be Megan and 17% say it will be Matt. 29% say it will be someone else who goes home.
