Who Will Win: TMZ or Perez Hilton?

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Harvey LevinPerez Hilton, the self-proclaimed “Queen of All Media,” has ruled the celebrity gossip game for years — even though his site is rarely the first to break news. His phallic drawings and off-Internet antics are enough to attract millions of hungry gossipmongers each month.

TMZ (“Thirty-Mile Zone”), on the other hand, had to settle for being somewhat entertaining and usually accurate, but rarely able to crack into Hilton’s numbers. Last week changed everything.

See, Perez was in the middle of some drama with the Black Eyed Peas over that black eye he got from their manager. This, along with his refusal to apologize for using a gay slur against BEP’s will.i.am., caused a spike in Hilton’s traffic. Then TMZ broke the earth-shattering news of the death of Michael Jackson.

Since then, TMZ has dominated in Web traffic numbers, and has been cited by (and become the source of discussion for) such reputable news outlets as CNN and The Los Angeles Times. Plus, the site — whose TV cousin features budget meetings run by lawyer and ex-People’s Court commentator Harvey Levin — continues to break news about Jackson’s death, which is shaping up to be one of the most compelling clusterf*cks in pop culture history.

Meanwhile, the battle for celebrity-stalking supremacy continues, with 70% of Predicto Mobile community members predicting that TMZ will reign as Web-traffic champ through July.

“Perez’s stuff is never as good as TMZ’s and Perez displays his information poorly,” says “qtht0318.”

“I hate Perez Hilton. He shouldn’t even have a site,” says “tanya8221.”

“TMZ is the better gossip blog,” says “qmnq9465.” “[But] Hilton is a bigger gossip,” says “jas11889.”

“Hilton got hit. That alone will make gossip,” says “offw4000.”

One of these sites will land the final punch, so visit Predicto.com to find out who. You can also sign up and vote in surveys just like this one about the hottest topics in sports, pop culture and entertainment. Want even more Predicto? Head over to Facebook and become a fan.

Will ‘People’ Get the First Pics of SJP’s Twins?

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Sarah Jessica Parker Matthew BroderickSarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick welcomed two additions to their family, specifically twin girls Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, who were carried by a surrogate mother in Ohio.

We were hoping their names would be any combination of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte, but those chosen have familial meaning to the couple, who already has a 6-year-old son named James.

SJP is ready to play dress up with her girls, but we’re wondering if the Sex and the City star will introduce the cuties in an exclusive spread in People magazine. After all, 78% of the voting members of the Predicto Mobile community expect to “meet” them on the pages of the most popular celebrity weekly.

“I believe People magazine is always the first to get any baby pics [from the] celebrities. All other mags are “rag mags.” People mag gives more believable stories,” says member “suub9065.” “Gvwj3582″ agrees, stating, People mag is one of the most trusted and has the money to pay well for pics.”

“I see TMZ beating People to the punch,” says “capttoddE,” with “lpde5545″ sharing some of that sentiment. “I think one of the tabloids will beat [People] to it.”

Will SJP’s new additions appear on the pages of People? Future NBA Stars Make Hoop Dreams Predictions

Friday, June 26th, 2009

The basketball world was buzzing this week over the NBA Draft, and Predicto TV got to meet five of the hottest young players in the game. We were invited to the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and dialed up some hoops prediction questions for the newest NBA stars. Blake Griffin, the #1 draft pick for the Clippers, isn’t worried about Shaq O’Neal going to Cleveland: “I guess if he’s in the Eastern Conference, I won’t have to play him as much, so that would be nice.” At the #2 pick, the Grizzlies got Hasheem Thabeet, who told us he got advice from Celtics star, Ray Allen. (He told me to) “stay focused and be ready for this. It’s going to be so challenging at first, but you’re just going to have to work at it when you get out there.” Predicto TV also spent some time with Jordan Hill, Brandon Jennings and Tyler Hansbrough. A King Has Fallen: Michael Jackson Dies at 50

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Michael Jackson 2Everyone was taken by surprise when they heard the news about the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, on Thursday. As a living legend, Jackson inspired generations of hitmakers from Usher to Justin Timberlake to Beyoncé.

“I love Michael Jackson. His music is classic, timeless, legendary,” says Predicto Mobile community member “pugd7204.” Indeed, fans who feel the same way were anxious for his upcoming 50 concerts in London that were slated to begin July 13. Jackson was rehearsing up until the day before his death.

As of this writing, the specific cause of his cardiac arrest has yet to be determined, but stories are circulating that Jackson’s doctor might have injected him with any number of drugs that could have led to his heart failure.

“Can’t believe he’s gone! The world will mourn his passing just like Elvis!” says “dkiq5881.”

There seems to be no better way to remember the superstar than through his music, as fans have made a mad rush to sites like iTunes and Amazon to download Jackson’s best-loved songs. Because of that, 71% of those who cast their virtual ballot think Michael Jackson will rule the iTunes top 10 by 7/1, though his music may stand on its own merits.

“Michael Jackson was always a great artist and will always be remembered!” says “vluk6780.” “Michael Jackson was and is still the greatest pop singer that ever lived. He will never be forgotten by anyone in my family … or the planet. We love you,” says “obdu7834.”

At the moment of this writing, Jackson is claiming six of the top 10 spots with “Man in the Mirror,” “Thriller,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough,” “Smooth Criminal” and “Black or White.”

“If you don’t already have the songs, you’re just not a fan,” says “ldci6374.”

Crying for Argentina: Will So. Carolina Governor Mark Sanford Resign by 7/25?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Mark SanfordJust how much of a public figure’s private life should be made … well, public? The eternal debate continues, with the latest pothole in the road to the answer being the deep hole dug by South Carolina’s governor, Mark Sanford.

Sanford seemingly fell of the face of the earth this weekend. When asked about his whereabouts, everyone from his staffers to his wife offered up varying answers from “I don’t know” to “he’s hiking in the mountains” and “he needed some time away to think.” Turns out Sanford flew to Argentina for a rendezvous with his mistress. This wasn’t the first time — some previous trips were made at the expense of taxpayers — nor did he appoint a second-in-command or get his story straight with the crew in S.C.

“What he did was a big no-no!” says Predicto Mobile community member “rkkb9127.” Indeed, nearly 71% of voters in this poll think this particular no-no will end with Sanford resigning as early as 7/25.

“I think that anyone that does that kind of thing, [who] is in a political seat, should automatically lose that seat,” says “khzk1981.”

“His personal life is between him and his family, the press needs to back off,” says “chenry1310.”

Whether the media backs off or not remains to be seen, but will the governor, once considered a potential Republican candidate for president, surrender those aspirations in the wake of his public embarrassment?

“Not without a big fuss,” says “dawnxreich.”

Seacrest … In? Will Larry King Give the American Idol host his gig?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Larry King Ryan SeacrestLarry King’s eponymous talk show on CNN is a must-stop destination for those in the entertainment industry and the moment’s top newsmakers. Each night, King interviews everyone from dignitaries to divas, and he does so intelligently.

Rumors have circulated for years that busybody Ryan Seacrest has been anointed as King’s successor. In fact, King recently said during a speech that’s who he’d give the job to, but was met with laughter from the audience (click and scroll waaay down).

Can perpetually busy Seacrest — who holds down a morning show in Los Angeles, American Idol, E! News and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve special — add Ryan Seacrest Live to his schedule? The voting members of the Predicto Mobile community are locked in a tight poll, with 48% predicting that Seacrest will host the show after King retires.

“I don’t think he’ll fare well, but he is the popular choice!” says player “txwf8016.” “Jksi5647” disagrees, saying, “Seacrest has neither the intellect, nor depth of knowledge to do the show justice. Seacrest interview with Palin: two morons on the Titanic.”

“Are you f*cking kidding me?” asks “gtjb6797.” “That would be a nightmare. Please, CNN, don’t do that! Wrong demographic!”

“Seacrest is a good host, but I don’t think he’s suited for King’s job,” says “rqyb5908.”

Though the votes differed, doubt seems to unify everyone’s outlook toward the situation. Want to find out what others think and add your comments to the mix? Well, visit Predicto.com and sign-up to vote in the latest polls on the hottest topics. You can also find us on Facebook!

The Tribe Has Spoken: Will Jeff Probst Vote Himself Off Survivor?

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Jeff Probst 2He’s been the staple of the show that pushes its contestants to their physical and mental limits. Whether it was moderating the bug-eating contests or watching competitors duke it out in the rough terrain, Jeff Probst has always been the consistent element of CBS’ Survivor.

The locations, challenges and colorful personalities may change each season, but Probst, who admits to loving the people he gets to meet while filming, serves as the pillar of reason and rationale — often missing from the malnutritioned and sometimes delusional players.

But is Probst tiring of his rugged international adventures? The host’s contract expires once he finishes filming back-to-back seasons of the show, specifically the 19th and 20th.

Though he gets to travel, Probst has sometimes complained about the conditions of the locales where the show is taped — and he gets what are considered “luxuries” such as a toilet and Internet access. Plus, Probst has some other projects in the works.

Will he say good-bye to Survivor once the show’s 20th season airs? The Predicto Mobile community says no, with 61% predicting Jeff will stick around for lucky season 21 … and maybe a few more.

“I sure hope he isn’t leaving!” exclaims member “JimandTrish,” who voted no. “He must make insane money, so why not stay on?” says “wildncrazy_gurl.” “I think Probst likes what he does,” says “rqyb5908.”

“Come on, sooner or later he will want to leave,” says “fnzu1438,” who was one of the few who left comments that voted yes.

Will Probst’s flame continue to burn on this reality series? Visit Predicto.com to find out the answer to this and the many other running surveys that are waiting for your participation. If you still can’t get enough Predicto, then become a fan on Facebook!

So the Drama: Perez Hilton Gets a Black Eye(d Pea)

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Perez HiltonCelebrity blogger Perez Hilton is known for causing a furor in Hollywood. Over the years he’s proudly posted pictures of your favorite stars and starlets in their most awkward moments on his popular Web site, which reportedly has 10 million unique visitors each month.

But the personality, who, as of late, has become as much of a celebrity as those he follows, may have received a smack down from one of hip-hop’s most unlikely groups. Followers of Hilton’s site know how Perez likes to ridicule the Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie, who years ago had an accident when she didn’t quite make it to the restroom in time. Perez has continued to joke about the incident and Fergie in general, but over the weekend, he was confronted by her bandmate, will.i.am. After an exchange of words, a scuffle ensued and Perez walked away from the situation with black eye and a bruised ego.

Perez and will.i.am. both made videos with their respective sides of the story. At first, Perez blamed the attack on will, but the Peas’ tour manager has been arrested on assault charges that Hilton plans to pursue.

Black Eyed PeasThis frenzy of activity has inspired 56% of the Predicto Mobile community to predict that because of this incident, Perez will ban Black Eyed Peas coverage on his popular Web site and set off a long chain of comments about the famous blogger.

“I think Perez Hilton needs to quit his job. Everything he says is almost always hurtful, [nothing] good comes out of what he says!” chimed in member “fbbr5031.” “The Black Eyed Peas are too popular. Besides, if he’s making money off his Web site, then no, he won’t ban them,” says “kraa1122,” who, like “fbbr5031,” voted no.

“It depends on if Hilton will carry through with this threat, but he is claiming he will not talk about them anymore,” says “miut9198.” “I would not want someone who assaulted me to associate with anything I’m dealing with,” says “fbqd0842,” who along with the previous commenter voted yes.

“I honestly do not believe the Black Eyed Peas assaulted anyone. I think that it’s just a publicity stunt on both sides to get more attention in the media,” says “when6145.”

This will be one of the most talked about scandals for weeks to come. To find out more on the latest gossip, visit Predicto.com, sign up and start voting on surveys just like this one. Get more Predicto in your life by becoming a fan on Facebook.

This Just In: A petition is circulating on the Internet seeking to have Perez removed the list of nominees on the Teen Choice Awards. The petition claims that Hilton’s content is not appropriate for teens, and calls for a boycott of sponsos Neutrogena and Dr. Pepper. This comes in addition to a campaign on Twitter to get people to stop following the blogger’s tweets. Check out the petition here.
