Will Whitney Houston Discuss Drug Use on Oprah?

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Whitney HoustonIt’s safe to say that Oprah can get just about anybody she wants to be a guest on her show. She certainly scored big for her upcoming season opener on September 14: none other than Whitney Houston!

Now, it’s been a while since Whitney did an interview, but after her bouts with Diane Sawyer and Wendy Williams, it’s not too surprising. She’s also divorced Bobby Brown and has cleaned up her look, along with a new album coming out, so she’ll definitely have plenty to talk about.

But will her previous drug use be a topic during the hour-long conversation? 88% of voting Predicto Mobile community members think so.

“Ms. Houston is a role model and she will be up front. She will want to address her issues and overcoming them,” says member “khaw4488.”

“She will talk about it, and both [she] and Oprah will cry,” says “JG24Fan.”

“[You] can’t skip talking about the elephant in the room,” says “kapv6134.”

“Whitney should let it go, [it’s the] wrong crowd!” says “npiw8493.”

This is sure to be one of the most talked-about Oprah episodes in recent memory and Predicto will be sure to keep you updated on what happens. A Smashing-Good Time at Gotham Girls Roller Derby Bout

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

The Predicto TV crew wanted to attend a sporting event this summer, but didn’t want to do the predictable and see the Yankees. Instead, we did something where the players are allowed to smash into each other, knocking the other team over is part of the game and the penalty box is always busy. This is the world of women’s roller derby, and Predicto TV was invited to meet the national champion New York Gotham Girls. At a recent bout, two undefeated teams of danger-loving ladies faced off: the Bronx Gridlock in their taxicab-style uniforms, against the Manhattan Mayhem, dressed up like escapees from Rikers Island. We were treated to two hours of fun and excitement, as the Bronx dominated the action and handed Manhattan a painful loss.

We met Ginger Snap, the Gotham Girls league president and also a blocker/pivot on the Gridlock. “Everybody has a different reason for being here,” Ginger says. “It’s a combination of sport and fantasy and having your own name, but also the competition and the camaraderie… we do this all together, and you can hit somebody on the track, but you have to buy them a beer afterwards.” Gridlock pivot Dainty Inferno says, “You don’t have to be the biggest hitter, because I’m certainly not, but being able to get up from a hit, and being able to take it, over and over and dish it out, that’s the biggest thing. To get up, and keep going.” The crowd of about 2,000 that packed the Hunter College arena saw a thrilling bout, and we caught the vibe of fun and entertainment. All of the Gotham Girls answer our Predicto questions, so watch Episode 36 of Predicto TV now!

Can Michael Vick Spark the Eagles’ Ascent?

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Life has been anything but easy for Michael Vick lately.

Once on top of the world, the then-star quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons and the NFL’s highest paid player fell into the shadow of disgrace after a police raid in April of 2007 discovered he was operating a dogfighting ring in his home. He pleaded guilty in August 2007, and was meted 23 months of federal prison time on top of an indefinite suspension by the NFL beginning November 2007.

Several years and court appearances later, Vick is about to return to football at last and is getting ready for the next season. It is his hope that he will be able to spark some kind of improvement in the Philadelphia Eagles, his new team, over the duration of his one-year contract.

And change he must bring – the Eagles have not landed, but have skidded, crashed and burned their way recently through a tough 9-win season that fans and pundits would never have foreseen had Vick been part of the lineup. There are many people who believe that the Eagles would not have had to endure that kind of hardship had someone of Vick’s caliber been around.

So now he’s with the Eagles. And questions abound: Does Vick still have that same levels of fitness and skill that he had before the scandal? Will his recent absence from the NFL affect his game? Will fans still back the Eagles given everything that has happened since?

And, most importantly: can the Philadelphia Eagles improve on their 9-win season from last year, now that Michael Vick is on board to support Donovan McNabb and the crew?

This is not the first time high-profile athletes have been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Remember Kobe Bryant? Or how about Rasheed Wallace and the ‘Portland Jail-Blazers?’ Then there’s the whole doping controversy that only recently surrounded major league baseball and some of its biggest names.

There are always reasons why a player can’t function the way he used to following a long absence. A lack of fitness is one. Lost practice time is another. Then there’s the factor of being ‘left behind,’ as your contemporaries all start stepping up and raising their game. If Michael Vick is to have any hope of making it big again, he has to beat down those demons and push himself back up to the top of the league. Most certainly, he has the talent to be able to do it. He also has a lot to prove, and with that chip on his shoulder, he has the fuel to prove it.

All this looks good on paper. The question that remains is how it will all play out. If the Eagles improve on their last season with the help of Vick, then the shamed quarterback may have found redemption. Anything more – the playoffs, the Superbowl, possibly even an NFL championship, would be reaching.

But reach he ought to, for there are no other ways. Anything else, and the shadow of the dogfighting ring may continue to haunt him, his career, and his future indefinitely. Already the Eagles are 0-2, with Vick expected to be out for the next game, and fans are expressing their distrust towards the signing.

Despite this, the Predicto community have called out their votes this far, and have put 78% of voters saying that he will indeed improve Philadelphia’s 9-win season.

Fans like Bmay75 say that Vick and Donovan McNabb are tapped to lead the Eagles to win more than nine games.

Userkbpb0131 said that he didn’t want it, saying “after what he did to animals he should never be allowed to play again” and hopes “the team that took him loses every game.”

Yet others like vallynandmatt say “They will but I don’t think it will all be because of Vick.”

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Jon GosselinEver hear of The Divorced Dads Club? It could be the male counterpart to The First Wives Club and it could soon be coming to a TV screen near you.

Jon and Kate Plus 8 star Jon Gosselin has been hanging with Lindsay Lohan’s dad Michael, also a divorced dad, and is apparently shopping around the idea for the show about famous divorced fathers living life after marriage.

This comes with the news that TLC, the network that airs Jon and Kate, is less than pleased with Jon’s extracurricular activities with Hailey Glassman, Kate Majors and possibly others.

Will Jon switch networks for a show that’s not quite as wholesome as Jon and Kate used to be? 67% of voting Predicto Mobile members predict that Jon will announce his participation in the show by 10/5.

“I think he’s had it with reality shows,” says “vhku8024.”

“I truly believe Jon is a victim of reality television and knows it. He has made some very public mistakes. I think he would shy away from anymore,” says “adnb2250.”

“[I’m] waiting for [his] 15 minutes to be over,” says “PeachDracon.”

Will Bobby Brown Be Arrested for Skipping Court?

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Bobby BrownWherever Bobby Brown goes, trouble seems to follow. But the latest cause for Brown’s woes stems from where he didn’t go — and that is to court.

Brown was supposed to show up at a Massachusetts court room to explain about why he hadn’t been paying child support to one of his children’s mother, but he skipped the date. An arrest warrant was then filed and supposedly, if the Boston native steps foot anywhere in the state, he is to be arrested.

Brown’s whereabouts at the moment are not known, but when and if he makes an appearance in Massachusetts by 9/15, 74% of the Predicto Mobile community predicts the Whitney Houston-proclaimed King of R&B will be arrested.

“Bobby Brown is a repeat offender who probably thinks he is above the law,” says member “LuvsaKnight.”

“He’s always in trouble [and] the judge is probably getting tried of him,” says “qpbl5869.”

“Doesn’t he learn?” asks member “mmlp6011.”

“I hope he will have to pay like everyone else would,” says “yldo1919.”

What do you think: was skipping out Bobby’s prerogative or will he be pleading with the judge, “Don’t be cruel”? Visit Predicto.com to sign up for breaking news updates on surveys just like this. Idol Chatter: Will Victoria Beckham Replace Paula Abdul?

Friday, August 14th, 2009

People Victoria BeckhamPaula Abdul’s exit from American Idol has been the hot topic of conversation for days and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. While we talked about one of her potential moves, everyone wants to know if Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, will take her place at the judges table.

Initially, Posh was supposed to be a guest judge during the audition episodes filmed in Denver. She showed up to that gig, but then showed up when the tryouts moved to Boston, leaving many to wonder if she’s on tap to fill Paula’s seat.

Do you think Abdul will be replaced by Beckham? The opinions are split, but the vote is close, with 52% of the Predicto Mobile community speculating that V. Beckham will be a permanent judge on American Idol next season.

“I think that Victoria Beckham would be a fabulous addition to the American Idol team, at least better than Paula,” says member “maph7424.”

“I don’t see her being there long. People care about her man, not so much about her. All we ever hear [about] is what she is wearing,” says “ieto5833.”

“Hgdg6257” counters, saying “She is known, easy on the eyes, has been in the business and is very opinionated.”

“I don’t see her being on there. Wow, she was a Spice Girl, but what does she know about talent?” asks “blmb3725,” who sounds like they don’t wannabe seein’ V. Beckham on the tube with Simon, Randy and Kara.

Will Britney Perform at the VMAs?

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Britney SpearsIn the earlier part of her career, Britney Spears was as well-known for her electrifying performance as she was for her innocent/wild child duality. Her MTV Video Music Awards performances in 1999, 2000 and 2001 were some of the most-talked-about highlights in the history of the awards, but her 2007 effort paled in comparison.

Britney is nominated for more awards this year. After winning her first three ever at the 2008 edition and seemingly turning her life around, will Britney showcase her dancing and singing abilities at this year’s VMAs? 74% of the Predicto Mobile community thinks we’ll see Britney performing on the show in September.

“She should. She still has fans that love her,” says voting Predicto member “ptkf0866.”

“She’s doing great this year and she seems almost back to normal. I can’t see why they wouldn’t invite her,” says “tamkay24.”
